Arrests Made in Coyote, New Mexico

The Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s Office recently made two arrests in Coyote, New Mexico. The incident took place on March 1st, when deputies went to a home on County Road 423 in Coyote to serve a search warrant and an arrest warrant.

Search for Benito Morfin

Upon arriving at the home, deputies spoke with the owners who stated that Benito Morfin, 37, the subject of the arrest warrant, was not present. Based on previous encounters with Morfin, deputies learned that he primarily resides at the 3150 NM 96 address.

Arrest of Benito Morfin and Frank Morales

Deputies then proceeded to the home on NM 96, where they found both Benito Morfin and another individual, later identified as Frank Morales. Both men were detained and handcuffed. A search of Morfin revealed the presence of fentanyl pills, which were later confirmed through testing at the Rio Arriba Sheriff’s Office.

Arrest Warrant for Frank Morales

Frank Morales, 33, also had an outstanding warrant for unlawful taking of a motor vehicle. This warrant stemmed from an incident in January where Morales was found in possession of a stolen UTV and arrested after attempting to evade law enforcement.

Continued Efforts by Sheriff’s Office

Sheriff Billy Merrifield emphasized the importance of ongoing operations to address individuals with active warrants and those involved in illegal narcotics distribution. The Sheriff’s Office is working in partnership with New Mexico State Police and other law enforcement agencies to combat criminal activity in the area.
