The Shooting Incident in Navy Yard

On February 29, a Maryland man, Victor Scott Terrill, was charged with shooting a District Housing Authority Police officer in the Navy Yard neighborhood of Washington D.C. The incident took place at the Carroll Apartments, a senior living building located in the 400 block of M Street.

The Encounter and Escape

According to court documents, Terrill encountered the DCHA officer at the senior living building and was asked to leave the area. In a shocking turn of events, Terrill pulled out a handgun and shot the officer in the abdomen before fleeing the scene. Two other officers chased Terrill while calling for backup.

The Chase and Arrest

During the chase, the uninjured officer witnessed two additional gunshots being exchanged between Terrill and the injured DCHA officer. The wounded officer was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance with serious wounds. Terrill fled to a nearby building about a block away and barricaded himself inside a parking area for several hours before being found on the roof by members of MPD’s Emergency Response Team.

The Alleged Accomplice

Terrill’s alleged accomplice, 37-year-old Teyona Tolson, was also taken into custody. Surveillance cameras captured Terrill placing a handgun into a trashcan in the building’s parking garage. Investigators later found a Smith & Wesson 40 Caliber handgun in the trashcan.

Legal Proceedings

Prosecutors have requested for Terrill to be detained pending trial. A hearing is scheduled for Friday, March 8, where the court will determine whether to release Terrill or detain him further.
