BHOPAL: A tragic incident unfolded in MP’s Rajgarh district as a young man shot his wife in the head with an air gun after a heated argument. The suspect then sat next to his lifeless wife’s body all night before his father discovered her lifeless body at daybreak, police revealed on Monday.

The couple, Prakhar Upadhyay, 28, and Vandana, 25, had been married since 2021 and resided in Shivaji Market of Khujner, approximately 120km from Bhopal. Sources indicated that Prakhar, who is unemployed, grapples with mental health issues and exhibits erratic behavior at times.

In a separate incident, a man serving a 12-year life imprisonment term at Rewa Central Jail was found dead. The deceased, identified as Narendra Patel, 40, had been sentenced to life imprisonment in April 2012 for the murder of his wife and dowry harassment. Patel had been on parole since January 17 but returned to jail on February 1, informing authorities of an injury sustained during his time out.

Superintendent of Rewa Central Jail, SK Upadhyay, stated that Patel had been in good health upon his return to the facility. However, on the night of March 1, he complained of chest pain and was rushed to a hospital where he tragically passed away.

A magisterial probe has been initiated into the death of Narendra Patel to ascertain the circumstances surrounding his demise. The incident has left authorities and the community in shock as they grapple with the loss of two individuals in separate, yet equally tragic events.
