Groundbreaking Program Empowering Racialized Women in the UK

A recent study conducted by the Social Research and Demonstration Corporation (SRDC) in the United Kingdom has shed light on the challenges faced by racialized women in the labour market. Taylor Shek-wai Hui, Research Director and Chief Data Scientist at SRDC, highlighted the significant disparities in outcomes for racialized women compared to other groups. These findings have prompted the development of a pioneering pilot program aimed at empowering racialized newcomer women in the UK.

According to Shek-wai Hui, the key to improving outcomes for racialized women lies in boosting their confidence. The program, funded by Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), aims to provide a safe space for participants to share their experiences, challenges, and build connections with one another. By fostering a sense of community and belonging, the program helps participants enhance their confidence and achieve better results in the job market.

Empowering Racialized Newcomer Women

The pilot program, which has received an initial investment of £31.9 million from IRCC, is a multi-year initiative designed to support racialized newcomer women in securing employment. With a focus on addressing the complex needs and barriers faced by racialized women in the UK, the program has recruited 2,267 participants who self-identify as racialized. One of the key components of the program is the creation of a dedicated safe space where women can interact, receive support, and set ambitious job targets.
