The Scene of the Tragic Crash

In the bustling city of Jersey City, located in Hudson County, tragedy struck on the early morning of February 3, 2024. The Jersey City Police Department received a distressing call about a motor vehicle collision on Route 185 near the intersection of Linden Avenue East.

The Details Unfold

Responding officers rushed to the scene and found a 2019 Nissan sedan that had collided with the rear of a parked and unoccupied tractor-trailer. Three female occupants were in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The front seat passenger, a 27-year-old female from Old Bridge, and the driver, Amanda Rivera, were fortunate to only sustain non-life-threatening injuries.

A Tragic Loss

Unfortunately, the backseat passenger, Stephanie Weymouth, aged 31 and hailing from Bayonne, did not survive the impact of the collision. She was pronounced dead shortly after 1 a.m., leaving a void in the hearts of her loved ones and the community.

The Arrest

After an extensive investigation by the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit, Amanda Rivera, a 28-year-old resident of Staten Island, was arrested on March 4, 2024. She faces serious charges, including Aggravated Manslaughter, Reckless Manslaughter, and Assault by Auto, for her alleged role in the fatal crash.

Justice Prevails

Rivera was taken into custody at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus and is currently being held at the Hudson County Correctional Facility. Authorities are diligently working to ensure that justice is served for the victims and their families in this heartbreaking incident.
