KARACHI: A tragic incident occurred in the bustling Korangi area of Karachi on Monday night, where robbers shot down a private university student in cold blood. The victim, identified as Laraib, met with his untimely demise in Allah Wala Town locality.
The Heartbreaking Encounter
The deceased student’s father, Muhammad Hussain, revealed that his son, Laraib, valiantly resisted the robbery attempt as he was safeguarding the data of a book he was writing, stored in his cell phone. Laraib had left the safety of his home to go to the gym when the fateful encounter took place.
A Promising Future Cut Short
Muhammad Hussain further shared that Laraib was engaged and had dreams of tying the knot in 2025. His brother, Shahzaib, lamented the loss of his sibling, highlighting that Laraib was in the midst of penning a book on Basic Accounting. Expressing disappointment in the lack of police intervention in such crimes, Shahzaib highlighted the increasing rate of dacoity incidents in the metropolis.
The Grim Reality
According to police reports, Laraib was accosted by two assailants on his way back from the gym. One of the suspects fired a fatal shot that struck Laraib near his eye, resulting in his tragic demise. A 30-bore pistol shell was recovered from the crime scene, indicating the use of firearms in the grisly incident.
A Recurring Tragedy
This unfortunate incident echoes a similar tragedy that unfolded in December 2022 when a 21-year-old engineering student, Bilal Nasir, from NED University of Engineering and Technology, was gunned down by robbers in Mobina Town. Bilal’s resistance to a mobile phone theft attempt cost him his life, shedding light on the precarious security situation in Karachi.
As investigations continue into Laraib’s senseless death, the community mourns the loss of another promising young individual to the scourge of street crime plaguing the city.
