Port Hadlock Man Accused of Crime Spree in Clallam County

A Port Hadlock man, identified as James E. Kingsland, has been accused of a crime spree that spanned from Agnew to the FedEx warehouse on Easy Street in Port Angeles. Kingsland, 46, appeared in Clallam County Superior Court and made a startling declaration that he was “led by God to do these crazy things.”

Charges and Bail

Kingsland is facing five felonies and two gross misdemeanors. The charges include second-degree burglary, motor vehicle theft, theft, vehicle prowl, and malicious mischief. He is currently held in Clallam County Jail on $50,000 bail. If released, Kingsland has been trespassed from properties belonging to FedEx and Peninsula Friends of Animals.

Legal Consequences

A Class B felony carries a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment and/or a $20,000 fine, while a Class C felony carries a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment and/or a $10,000 fine. A gross misdemeanor is punishable by up to 364 days in jail and/or a $5,000 fine.

God’s Path

During the court hearing, Kingsland claimed that his actions were guided by God. He signed his acknowledgment of rights form as “Jesus Christ.” The court records also revealed that he had recently been released from prison and had completed drug court through Jefferson County.

Previous Conviction

Kingsland was sentenced to 43 months in prison on March 21, 2022. The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary at Peninsula Friends of Animals and a theft at the FedEx warehouse, where Kingsland was allegedly involved in both incidents, as captured on video surveillance.

Video Evidence

Video footage showed Kingsland arriving in a green Chevrolet Astro van at Peninsula Friends of Animals, where he stole items and a truck belonging to the organization. He was later seen taking a FedEx delivery truck without permission and driving it around before abandoning it on the property.

The dash cam in the stolen truck captured Kingsland’s actions, including entering other vehicles on the property and stealing items. The sheriff’s office confirmed that the man in the video matched Kingsland’s driver’s license photo.

Overall, Kingsland’s alleged crime spree has left a trail of charges and legal consequences in Clallam County, with his unusual claim of being guided by God adding a unique twist to the case.
