A tragic incident occurred on Tuesday along the Owerri-Ihiala Expressway by the Ihiala Local Government Area secretariat, resulting in the loss of life of an as-yet-unidentified individual. The incident, which took place around noon, involved two vehicles owned by God is Good Logistics and a driver of a Nissan Caravan commercial bus.

Eyewitnesses reported that the driver of the Ford vehicle was driving at a high speed when one of its front tyres malfunctioned, causing him to lose control and collide with the Nissan in front of him. The collision left 11 individuals, including seven male adults and four female adults, affected. Tragically, one male adult lost his life in the crash, while four male adults and four female adults sustained injuries. Fortunately, two individuals escaped unscathed.

Margaret Onabe, the acting Sector Public Education Officer of the state Federal Road Safety Corps, confirmed that the primary causes of the fatal accident were excessive speed and loss of control. She identified the drivers involved as Francis Basil, operating a black Ford E-250 bus with registration number JJJ842YG, and Orjiwuru Augustine, driving a custom Nissan Caravan commercial bus with registration number TTK518XA.

The FRSC rescue team from RS5.34 Ihiala Unit Command Anambra State promptly responded to the scene, transporting the victims to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Ihiala. Tragically, one male adult succumbed to his injuries, with his body being taken to the hospital’s mortuary.

Sector Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi of Anambra State expressed his condolences to the deceased victim’s family and wished the injured individuals a speedy recovery. He emphasized the importance of obeying traffic rules to prevent such accidents, urging motorists to drive responsibly for their safety and that of others on the road.
