The Tragic Incident in Oakville
In the early hours of March 2, 2024, a fatal shooting involving two Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) officers took place in Oakville, Ontario. The incident has sparked an investigation by the Special Investigations Unit (SIU).
Details of the Incident
Reports indicate that at approximately 1:40 a.m., the HRPS officers responded to a 911 call reporting a stabbing at a residence on Stanbury Road. Upon their arrival, they encountered the suspect inside the home and subsequently opened fire, resulting in the man’s death at the scene. Another individual was found with serious injuries and has been hospitalized.
SIU Investigation
The SIU has deployed six investigators and three forensic experts to the case. An autopsy is scheduled for the following day. Two officers involved in the incident are currently under investigation, along with four witnesses. The SIU spokesperson, Kristy Denette, revealed that the relationship between the deceased man and the injured individual is not entirely clear at this time.

The SIU is still trying to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the shooting. It remains unclear how many shots were fired or whether the deceased man was armed. Denette stated that it is too early to determine the reasons behind the police action, but all that is known is that the call to the residence was related to a stabbing.
