Accident – Death – Obituary News :

(CBS DETROIT) – The upcoming trial of James Crumbley, the father of the Oxford High School shooter, is set to begin this week with the commencement of jury selection. This follows the recent conviction of Jennifer Crumbley, the mother of the shooter, who was found guilty of four counts of involuntary manslaughter last month.

Jury Selection Underway

James Crumbley, who also faces four counts of involuntary manslaughter, is accused of allowing his son access to the gun used in the tragic shooting at Oxford High School and neglecting to address his son’s mental health issues. Despite his request for a change of venue, jury selection will kick off on Tuesday, March 5, in Oakland County court.

Legal Proceedings

Defense attorney Mariell Lehman argued that James Crumbley would not receive a fair trial in Oakland County following Jennifer Crumbley’s trial, but this request was denied by Judge Cheryl Matthews. The prosecution will have the opportunity to call one student who was injured in the shooting to testify during the trial.

Key Witnesses

Two former students who were present in the hallway during the shooting may be called to testify, with the prosecution allowed to choose one of them. Additionally, the previous owner of the gun used in the shooting will provide testimony about the firearm’s condition and usage.

Upcoming Sentencing

Following James Crumbley’s trial, Jennifer Crumbley’s sentencing is scheduled for April 9. The couple’s son, the perpetrator of the tragic event, has already been sentenced to life in prison without parole for taking the lives of four students and injuring several others on November 30, 2021.
