Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A Pennsylvania woman has been convicted of murder and weapons offenses in the shooting and stabbing deaths of her father and his longtime girlfriend in New Jersey. The tragic incident occurred 2 1/2 years ago at the waterfront home in Surf City on Long Beach Island.

Emotionless Verdict

Sherry Lee Heffernan, 57, of Landenberg, showed no emotion when the jury foreperson in Ocean County announced on Friday that she had been found guilty of the murders of her father, John Enders, 87, and Francoise Pitoy, 75. She faces a life sentence when she is sentenced on May 10.

Discovery of Victims

The bodies of the victims were discovered in the fall of 2021 at Enders’ home. Both had been shot in the jaw and stabbed numerous times. Authorities alleged that Heffernan was upset with her father for cutting her out of his will.

Prosecution’s Case

New Jersey prosecutors cited evidence of Heffernan’s recreational vehicle traveling to the home on the night of the murders. They also mentioned three footprints identified as hers on blood-stained areas of the kitchen floor. Defense attorneys argued against the evidence, stating there was no proof of Heffernan’s presence.

Arrest and Extradition

Heffernan was arrested in October 2021 and has been held in Ocean County jail since then. She was extradited from Pennsylvania after claiming innocence and being “framed” during a court appearance in Chester County.

Reactions to Verdict

Family members of the victims expressed relief and satisfaction with the verdict. Valerie Lewis Evans, one of Pitoy’s daughters, mentioned that prayers had worked, while Sandrine Lewis, Pitoy’s other daughter, felt justice had been served. Enders’ grandson, Andrew Vero, stated that they could finally move on from the tragic events.

Overall, the conviction of Sherry Lee Heffernan marks a somber end to a long legal process, bringing closure to the families of the victims and ensuring that justice is served in this heartbreaking case.
