Man Found with Stab Wounds in Thome Estate Apartment
A 33-year-old man is currently in police custody after being discovered with stab wounds in an apartment room located in Thome estate, Nairobi. The incident occurred in the same apartment where a 20-year-old woman, Joan Mbula Nzomo, tragically fell to her death on Saturday.
Discovery of the Deceased Woman
Joan’s body was found on the ground floor of the apartment building, half-naked, after falling from the 10th floor. She was wearing a red t-shirt at the time of the discovery, and the circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear.
Police Investigation at the Scene
Upon arriving at the scene, authorities found the short-stay accommodation room where Joan had spent the night locked. The owner of the room was contacted to provide a spare key, which allowed the detectives to gain access.
Discovery of the Unconscious Man
Inside the room, they found Lawrence Gitonga, the unconscious man with eight stab wounds. He was rushed to the hospital for treatment, and upon regaining consciousness, he claimed that Joan had stabbed him. The room showed signs of a struggle, with blood-stained bed sheets and walls.
Neighbours’ Testimonies
Neighbours reported hearing Joan shouting for help on the balcony before her fall. Police suspect that Lawrence may have sought refuge in the bathroom after being stabbed, as indicated by blood splatters in the bathroom.
Investigation and Evidence Collection
DCI detectives collected forensic evidence, personal belongings, and CCTV footage from the apartment to aid in their investigation. Initial findings suggest that Joan and Lawrence met at a local entertainment joint before checking into the apartment in the early hours of Saturday.
Police Statement and Suspect Status
Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei stated that Lawrence is currently the main suspect in the case, pending further investigation. Authorities are awaiting his recovery to hear his side of the story regarding Joan’s death.
