UPDATE, 5:14 P.M.: Tragic news has emerged from Lafayette Parish as Carencro High student Jaylon Joiner, 18, has passed away from the injuries sustained in the shooting.

ORIGINAL, 3:57 P.M.: LAFAYETTE PARISH, La. – The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a shooting incident that took place in the 200 block of Bradford Drive. The tragic event unfolded just after 3 p.m., leaving a student critically injured.

Deputies responded to a distress call reporting the shooting and upon arrival, found a male victim with a gunshot wound. The victim was swiftly transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The initial findings suggest that the victim was shot while exiting a school bus. While one suspect has been apprehended, it is believed that multiple individuals were involved in the incident. The victim, identified as a teen, is currently receiving medical attention. Carencro Middle School is presently under lockdown as a precautionary measure.

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting, and further details will be shared as they become available.
