The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Probes Fatal Shooting by Collierville Police Officer

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is currently looking into a tragic incident that occurred on Sunday night in Collierville, Tennessee. According to reports, a Collierville police officer shot and killed a man during a routine traffic stop at the corner of Poplar Avenue and Schilling Boulevard.

Details of the Incident

The victim, identified as 30-year-old Antwon Booker, was pulled over by officers for speeding late at night. During the stop, a physical altercation broke out between one of the officers and Booker. Reports suggest that Booker attempted to grab the officer’s gun, prompting the other officer to open fire, fatally striking him. Booker was rushed to a local hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Investigation Launched by TBI

Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy has called in the TBI to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. Mulroy’s office has a history of releasing footage in cases of fatal police shootings to ensure transparency in the investigations. However, it is uncertain at this time whether footage will be released in this particular case.

Background of the Victim

Public records reveal that Antwon Booker had a history of traffic violations, including speeding and reckless driving. He also had felony and misdemeanor cases in the past, some of which were dismissed. In 2018, he received diversion for a misdemeanor assault charge.

Status of the Officers Involved

CPD Major David Townsend stated that the employment status of the officers involved in the shooting has not been determined yet. It remains unclear whether they will be placed on leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Request for Footage

A public records request has been submitted for body camera and in-car camera footage of the incident. However, as of now, the request has not been fulfilled.
