According to the San Leandro Police Department, the young victim sustained a gunshot wound to his leg after a man opened fire on the apartment building. The suspect, later identified as 33-year-old Adam Johnson of Oakland, allegedly fired at least five shots into one of the units with a handgun. Tragically, one of the bullets struck the 4-year-old boy, causing him to be rushed to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities quickly responded to the scene of the shooting and were able to locate the intended victim unharmed in the first residence. Johnson was arrested on Feb. 29 and has since been charged by the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office with two counts of attempted homicide. As of now, Johnson is being held without bail at the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
