About the Incident
Tragedy struck in Othakalmandapam near Coimbatore late on Sunday, claiming the lives of a pedestrian and a college student. The heartbreaking incident took place at 7.10 p.m. on Sunday, when P. Sureshkumar, a 19-year-old college student from Kanakkanpatty near Palani in Dindigul district, was returning to his college at Eachanari with his classmate R. Kartheeshwaran.
The Victims
The pedestrian who lost her life in the accident has been identified as A. Saikala, a 35-year-old resident of Othakalmandapam. Sureshkumar, who was studying in the second year of his undergraduate course at a private college, unfortunately, succumbed to the injuries sustained in the accident.
The Accident
According to the police, the accident occurred near Premier Mills at Othakalmandapam when Sureshkumar, who was riding the motorcycle, collided with Saikala while she was crossing the road. Both Sureshkumar and Saikala suffered severe injuries and were rushed to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, where they were pronounced dead on arrival.
The Aftermath
Despite wearing a helmet, Sureshkumar could not escape the tragic outcome of the accident. His friend Kartheeshwaran, who was also on the bike, managed to escape with minor injuries and abrasions. The Chettipalayam police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
