Tragic Shooting Incident Unfolds in High Meadows Park, Colorado Springs

In a distressing turn of events, the peaceful atmosphere of High Meadows Park in Colorado Springs was shattered by a violent incident that left the community in shock. On the afternoon of Wednesday, Feb. 28, the tranquility of this serene park on the northeast side of the city was disrupted by the sound of gunshots.

Gunshot Victims Found Near N. Carefree Ave. and N. Powers Blvd.

Following the shots fired call, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) received another alarming report from a business located in the vicinity of N. Carefree Ave. and N. Powers Blvd. Two juvenile males were discovered with gunshot wounds, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.

Tragic Outcome for One Juvenile Male

Investigations by CSPD revealed that the two juvenile males with gunshot wounds were directly involved in the shooting at High Meadows Park. Tragically, one of the juveniles sustained serious, life-threatening injuries and despite medical intervention, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The other juvenile male was fortunately treated for his injuries and subsequently released.

Identity of Deceased Juvenile Male Revealed

The El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy on the deceased juvenile male and identified him as a 17-year-old resident of Colorado Springs. In accordance with Colorado Revised Statute 24-72-304 (Riley’s Law), CSPD has refrained from disclosing any further details about the victim.

Search for Suspect Continues

As of now, CSPD has not apprehended a suspect in connection with the shooting. The department has emphasized that this incident is not believed to be a random act of violence and detectives are actively pursuing leads to ascertain the circumstances of the shooting, including potential suspect information.
