Arrests Made in Bell County After Stolen Vehicle Incident

Two men were apprehended by law enforcement officers in Bell County after suspicions arose about their activities involving a stolen vehicle. The incident took place on Thursday afternoon, when Bell County Sheriff’s deputies received a report of suspicious behaviour at a Cefco convenience store and gas station located at 1022 W. Village Road.

Suspicious Activity Leads to Police Pursuit

Lieutenant Stacey McClinton stated that the suspicious activity was flagged when two men were seen in separate vehicles at the store. One of the vehicles, which did not have a front license plate, was identified as stolen. The other man was acting as a lookout, driving around the parking lot while the stolen vehicle was being refueled.

Deputies in unmarked vehicles observed the men and called for marked patrol units to initiate stops on the vehicles. This led to a vehicle pursuit that began when the stolen vehicle sped northbound on Interstate Highway 35. The chase eventually came to an end on East Sixth Street in Belton, where the stolen vehicle was abandoned.

Suspects Apprehended

The driver of the stolen vehicle, identified as 25-year-old Stanton Carter from Dallas, was arrested by Belton Police Department officers. During the arrest, marijuana was allegedly found in Carter’s front pocket. The vehicle itself was found to have fake Vehicle Identification Number labels, confirming it as a stolen vehicle from Harris County.

The second suspect, Marby Martinez from Houston, was also arrested at the Cefco station without incident. Both Carter and Martinez were held in custody at the Bell County Jail, facing pending felony charges. Carter additionally faces a Class B misdemeanor charge for possession of marijuana under two ounces.

As the investigation continues, the Bell County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case for potential criminal charges against the suspects. The arrests serve as a reminder of the vigilance and swift action taken by law enforcement to combat criminal activities in Bell County.
