Although the police have not disclosed the cause of Nex’s death, they have stated that it was not a result of injuries sustained during the fight. The Department’s Office For Civil Rights has launched an investigation into the district’s response to alleged harassment, prompted by a letter from the Human Rights Campaign.

Owasso Public Schools has denied the allegations, deeming them unsupported and without merit. However, the district has expressed its commitment to cooperating with federal officials during the investigation process.

Amidst the ongoing inquiries, Nex’s family has highlighted the harassment Nex faced due to their non-binary identity. This revelation has underscored the need for a safer and more inclusive environment for all students.
