SHILLONG, MAR 2: A tragic incident unfolded in the serene village of Shella, located along the Indo-Bangladesh border in the picturesque East Khasi Hills District. A villager named Arsen M Marak met with an untimely demise on Friday night after being shot dead by the Border Security Force (BSF).

The Superintendent of Police, Rituraj Ravi, revealed that the BSF personnel allegedly opened fire on Arsen M Marak, leading to his unfortunate death. The investigation is currently ongoing, with the post-mortem examination of the deceased in progress.

While shedding light on the incident, SP Rituraj Ravi mentioned that the police are yet to receive a First Information Report (FIR) from any party involved. The authorities are diligently probing the matter to ascertain all the facts surrounding the tragic event.

According to SP Rituraj Ravi, the BSF claimed that they resorted to firing in self-defence, citing an altercation and perceived threats from the deceased. The police are diligently investigating the sequence of events to establish a clear understanding of the situation.

He further added, “The version of the events from the village side is yet to be received, and until we have all the necessary information, we will refrain from making any conclusive statements. Once we receive the FIR from the village side, we will proceed with registering a case and delving deeper into the circumstances.”
