The Acquittal of Four Men Accused of Killing Gurlal Singh Brar

A Chandigarh court has recently acquitted four men who were accused of killing Gurlal Singh Brar, the cousin of Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar, in 2020. The court made this decision after an eye-witness specifically denied their involvement in the crime.

The Incident

Gurlal Singh Brar was allegedly killed by members of the Davinder Bambiha gang in front of the main gate of the City Emporium Mall in the Industrial Area on October 10, 2020. The victim succumbed to his injuries at PGI hospital later.

The Court’s Decision

The District Court of Chandigarh acquitted the four accused individuals — Gurvinder Singh alias Dhadi, Gurmeet Singh alias Geeta, Chamkor Singh alias Baint, and Neeraj Gupta alias Chaska — of charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and Arms Act, 1959. The court extended the benefit of doubt to the accused, leading to their acquittal.

The Witness Testimony

During the court proceedings, the defense counsel argued that there was insufficient evidence against the accused individuals. The public prosecutor, on the other hand, believed that the witnesses had been swayed by the accused. However, the key witness, Vikas Tiwari, failed to identify the accused in court and denied their involvement in the crime.

The Court’s Ruling

After reviewing the statements of prosecution witnesses, Additional District and Sessions Judge Jaibir Singh emphasized the importance of the witness testimony. He noted that the complainant, who was the sole eyewitness, specifically stated that the accused individuals were not involved in the occurrence. As a result, the court decided to acquit the accused individuals due to lack of concrete evidence.

Conclusion

In light of the witness testimony and the absence of scientific evidence linking the accused to the crime, the Chandigarh court decided to extend the benefit of doubt to the four men accused of killing Gurlal Singh Brar. This verdict highlights the importance of thorough investigation and reliable witness testimony in criminal cases.
