Tragic Accident Unfolds on Hwy-97 in Klamath County, Oregon

Klamath County, Oregon – On Thursday, February 29, 2024, at 10:02 a.m., a devastating two-vehicle crash occurred on Hwy-97, near milepost 174, sending shockwaves through the local community.

Details of the Collision

The incident involved a southbound Peterbilt commercial motor vehicle (CMV) and trailer driven by Desiree Danielle Johnson, 34, of St. Petersburg, Florida, and a northbound Honda Pilot operated by Elise Adair Farrens, 37, of La Pine.

According to preliminary investigations by the Oregon State Police (OSP), Johnson lost control of the CMV, causing it to jackknife and veer into the path of Farrens’ Honda Pilot. The collision proved fatal for Farrens, who tragically lost her life at the scene.

Furthermore, a passenger in the Honda, identified as Daviana Marie Trussell, 23, of La Pine, sustained critical injuries in the crash. Trussell, who was pregnant at the time, tragically lost her unborn child due to the impact of the collision.

Johnson, the driver of the Peterbilt CMV, suffered only minor injuries in the incident.

Response and Investigation

Following the crash, Hwy-97 was closed for approximately 3.5 hours to allow authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
