Tragedy struck Dhaka once again as another victim of the massive fire that engulfed a commercial building on Bailey Road lost his life while receiving treatment at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Friday morning.
Identification of the Victim
The victim, identified as Jewel, aged 30, passed away at around 7 am in the intensive care unit (ICU) of DMCH. His demise has brought the death toll from the devastating fire to a staggering 45.
Rising Death Toll
Out of the total fatalities, 39 bodies have been successfully identified, with at least 31 bodies handed over to their respective families without the need for an autopsy. However, the identities of six bodies still remain unknown, and authorities are set to conduct DNA tests to determine their identities before handing them over to their families.
Statements from Officials
Dhaka District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer, Abdur Rahman, revealed the latest information in front of the DMCH on Friday morning. Additionally, Dhaka Additional Deputy Commissioner AKM Hedayetul Islam stated that the DMCH authorities are facilitating the process of handing over the bodies to the families, with financial assistance of Tk25 thousand being provided to the families of deceased individuals who may not be financially stable.
As the city mourns the loss of innocent lives in this tragic incident, the authorities continue their efforts to provide support to the affected families and ensure that all necessary procedures are carried out with respect and dignity.
