A suspected killer who had been on the run for nine months was finally apprehended by authorities in Cleveland. Steven Cole, 23, was wanted by Cleveland police for the aggravated murder of 20-year-old Demetrius Williams, who was shot and killed in June 2023.

According to U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott, Cole was arrested at a Beachwood hotel on Friday following an extensive manhunt. The arrest came after officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert of gunshots fired on Kempton Avenue near East 102nd Street on June 19, 2023. Williams was found with a gunshot wound to the neck and later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Details of the Crime

Allegedly, Williams was in a car when the suspect drove up in another vehicle and opened fire, fatally injuring him. Cole was later identified as the perpetrator of the deadly shooting, leading to a warrant being issued for his arrest.

The U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force played a crucial role in locating and apprehending Cole. Marshal Elliott emphasized the importance of public cooperation in the capture of wanted fugitives.
