A man has been found guilty of a heinous crime in Milwaukee. Juan C. Morales-Escarffulletts, 34, was convicted by a Milwaukee County jury of first-degree intentional homicide in the brutal slaying of William Concepcion, 45. The incident took place on August 25, 2022, outside the El Rey Food Mart at 1320 W. Burnham St.

The tragedy unfolded when Milwaukee police responded to a call reporting a man lying in the street with a gunshot wound to his chest. Despite efforts by firefighters to save him, Concepcion succumbed to his injuries. The victim was shot twice before being run over by Morales-Escarffulletts.

Key Evidence in the Case

During the trial, jurors were presented with compelling evidence linking Morales-Escarffulletts to the crime. Surveillance footage from the market captured the chilling sequence of events. The video showed a dark red sedan pulling up to Concepcion, hitting him, and then the driver getting out and opening fire on the victim with a handgun. After Concepcion fell to the ground, the assailant ran him over with the vehicle not once, but twice, before fleeing the scene.

Assistant District Attorney Grant Huebner highlighted key pieces of evidence that helped identify Morales-Escarffulletts as the perpetrator. The security footage clearly showed the killer wearing a Tampa Bay Rays shirt with a distinctive “TB” logo. Additionally, the vehicle’s license plate was visible in the footage, aiding in the investigation.

Further incriminating evidence was found at Morales-Escarffulletts’ former girlfriend’s home. Police discovered the clothing worn during the crime, paperwork for the sale of a firearm, ammunition, gun cases, and other items related to the shooting. Tests confirmed that the cartridge casings found at the crime scene matched those recovered during the search.
