Accident – Death – Obituary News :

The Shooting Incident in Sydney’s CBD

In a recent incident that shocked the residents of Sydney’s CBD, a 79-year-old man was charged with a shooting at a law firm. The alleged gunman, Sinve Vulic, was armed with a small handgun and a sawn-off semi-automatic rifle when he shot lawyer Van Cooney, 77, in the groin on the ninth floor of a building on Castlereagh Street.

Arrest and Charges

After the shooting, workers at the building managed to restrain Vulic until firefighters and police arrived. He was subsequently arrested and charged with a series of firearm-related offences, including shooting with intent to murder, possessing a loaded firearm, endangering life, and possessing unauthorised prohibited firearms.

Court Proceedings

During his first court appearance at Downing Centre Local Court, Vulic did not appear in person or on screen. His lawyer, Ken Buckman, requested medical assistance for his client while in custody. The magistrate assured that all inmates on remand receive proper screening.

Legal Details

Court documents revealed that the firearms allegedly used in the incident were a small .22 calibre handgun and an M1 carbine, a semi-automatic rifle with the shoulder butt removed. The case is set to return to court in early May, with no pleas entered yet.

Investigation and Reactions

Numerous questions remain unanswered, including the nature of the relationship between Vulic and the victim. Detective Inspector David El-Badawi stated that the incident is not believed to be gang-related. Witnesses described Vulic as calm and non-aggressive before the shooting, leaving many in shock.

As the legal process unfolds and investigations continue, the Sydney CBD community remains on edge following this unprecedented act of violence.
