Comox Valley RCMP are seeking the public’s help in the investigation of a hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of cyclist Rodney Kelly. The incident took place on the evening of Feb. 8 on the Comox Valley Parkway near Minto Road in Courtenay.

Details of the Incident

A passerby discovered Rodney Kelly, who had sustained serious injuries, and immediately called 911 for help. Despite the efforts of paramedics and the Cumberland Fire Department, Kelly tragically passed away in the hospital.

Call for Witnesses

Investigators are urging anyone who may have been with Rodney Kelly on the night of Feb. 8 or who has dashcam footage of his travels in Cumberland and along the Comox Valley Parkway between 9 and 10:30 p.m. to come forward. This information is crucial in piecing together the events leading up to Kelly’s death.

Suspect Charged

Steven Henry Squires, 45, has been charged with first-degree murder and failing to stop at the scene of a crash causing death in connection with Rodney Kelly’s passing. Squires is set to appear in court on March 7 in Courtenay.
