West Virginia Deputy Hospitalized After Being Shot During Pursuit in Sissonville

SISSONVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A West Virginia deputy is currently in the hospital after sustaining a gunshot wound during a pursuit in the quiet town of Sissonville.

Located in Kanawha County, Sissonville is a picturesque community known for its rolling hills and tranquil atmosphere. However, on Thursday, February 29, 2023, the peace was shattered by a harrowing incident that left the local law enforcement reeling.

The Pursuit

According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO), the incident unfolded around 1:11 a.m. when Kanawha County Sheriff’s Deputies were engaged in a pursuit on Walker Drive in Sissonville. The pursuit escalated quickly, leading to a dramatic confrontation.

The Suspect

The suspect vehicle, driven by Nathan Oxley, 43 of Sissonville, turned onto Applehill Lane and came to a stop at the end of the road. In a brazen move, Oxley opened fire on the deputy as he exited his patrol car, injuring the law enforcement officer.

The deputy, however, managed to return fire and call for backup. Multiple officers from neighbouring agencies rushed to the scene to provide assistance.

The Female Passenger

A female passenger, identified as Rebecca Linville, also known as “Becky”, remains at large in the area. Despite her absence, law enforcement assures the public that she is not considered a threat. K-9 units have been deployed to track down Linville, who is believed to still be in the vicinity.

The Deputy’s Condition

The injured deputy was swiftly transported to CAMC General Hospital for medical treatment. He is currently in stable condition and is scheduled for surgery the following morning. The suspect, Oxley, was also taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Charges and Investigation

Mr. Oxley is expected to face multiple charges, including attempted murder of a police officer and malicious wounding. The pursuit was initiated after the deputy recognised the suspect vehicle from an earlier disturbance call involving Oxley in Galena Lane.

The caller had reported Oxley as being violent and possibly under the influence of methamphetamine. The investigation into the incident is ongoing as law enforcement works to piece together the events that led to the dangerous confrontation.

As the community of Sissonville grapples with the aftermath of this shocking incident, residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any sightings of the missing female passenger. The safety and security of the community remain a top priority for law enforcement agencies in Kanawha County.
