Tragedy Strikes Phoenix as Five People Lose Their Lives in Separate Crashes
Phoenix (3TV/CBS 5) – The bustling city of Phoenix was rocked by tragedy on Tuesday as five separate crashes claimed the lives of five individuals in different locations across the city.
First Crash: The first incident occurred at around 11 a.m. on 7th Avenue just north of Thomas Road. The crash involved three vehicles, resulting in the tragic death of 86-year-old Gladyce Thorson Nielsen. A man sustained serious injuries in the collision.
Second Crash: Shortly before 5 p.m., 43-year-old Antonio Lopez-Cortes lost his life when the truck he was driving landed upside-down in a dry canal near 18th Avenue and Hatcher Road. Thankfully, no one else was injured in this tragic incident.
Third Crash: Around an hour later, Phoenix police responded to a crash involving a bicyclist in the area of 75th Avenue and Hazelwood Street. Sadly, 37-year-old Harlan Slender succumbed to his injuries after being struck by a truck. The driver remained at the scene, and impairment is not believed to have played a role in the collision.
Fourth Crash: At approximately 7:45 p.m., 18-year-old Carrigan Jones tragically lost his life after crashing his motorcycle into a light pole near 31st Avenue and Camelback Road. Police investigations suggest that speed may have been a contributing factor in this devastating accident.
Fifth Crash: Just before 10 p.m., emergency services were called to the area of 32nd Street and Windsor Avenue after a driver struck a pedestrian. Tragically, the victim succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The incident involved two cars, both of whose drivers remained present. Police have ruled out impairment as a factor in this heartbreaking event.
