Accident – Death – Obituary News : A tragic incident occurred in Assam’s Kamrup district on Wednesday morning, as a massive concrete slab from a flyover under construction on NH-2 collapsed, claiming the life of a 34-year-old peanut seller. Fulachand Ali, a resident of Khandigadh village in Baksa district, was passing through the partially built flyover at Baihata Chariali when the cable of a crane snapped, causing the slab to break off a pillar and crush him under its weight.

Authorities swiftly responded to the scene, with DIG Partha Sarathi Mahanta leading the investigation into the accident. The police will be looking into whether safety norms were followed by the road construction agency and the contractors, and any negligence or lapses will be met with legal action. The National Highways Authority of India and the construction agency have been instructed to ensure strict adherence to all safety regulations.

The use of substandard materials in the construction will also be thoroughly examined by the civil administration. The body of Fulachand Ali was retrieved by a team of NDRF after cutting through the slab and was subsequently sent for a post-mortem examination. Locals have raised concerns about the construction company’s failure to adhere to safety norms, suggesting that heavy work should be carried out at night to minimize risks to the public during the day.

The heartbreaking incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of strict adherence to safety protocols in construction projects. The authorities must take all necessary measures to prevent such tragedies from recurring in the future. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of Fulachand Ali during this difficult time..
