A man has been apprehended by authorities in Towns County, Georgia, after being discovered in the country illegally. The incident took place at a gas station on Hwy 76 W, where deputies responded to reports of a suspicious individual.

Upon arrival, deputies encountered 28-year-old Carmelo Cruz Lopez of Hiawassee. Following a search of his vehicle, law enforcement officials uncovered methamphetamine in Lopez’s possession.

Lopez was subsequently taken into custody and charged with felony possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, as well as felony possession of methamphetamine.

Further investigations revealed that Lopez had entered the United States illegally and was not a citizen. He was handed over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for further processing.

Authorities have not disclosed details regarding Lopez’s duration of stay in the country, his country of origin, or the manner in which he entered illegally.
