Gas Cylinder Blast at Bhashan Char Rohingya Camp Claims Fifth Life

Tragedy struck the Bhashan Char Rohingya camp in Noakhali as the death toll from a gas cylinder blast rose to five on Wednesday. The latest victim, identified as six-year-old Sohel, succumbed to his injuries at Chittagong Medical College and Hospital.

According to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) Director Brigadier General Shameem Ahsan, Sohel suffered burns on 52% of his body and was one of five Rohingya children who lost their lives in the incident. Currently, two individuals remain under treatment at the hospital.

The other four victims who tragically lost their lives in the blast were identified as Rosmina (5), Robi Alam (5), Mubassara (4), and Rasel (3). Seven individuals were initially brought to the hospital with burn injuries, with two survivors currently receiving treatment.

Details of the Incident

The gas cylinder explosion occurred at the Rohingya camp in the Bhashan Char area, resulting in injuries to nine individuals. Among them, seven were transferred to CMCH for medical care. Unfortunately, Rasel (3) passed away on the same day of the incident.

The remaining six victims were admitted to the burn and plastic surgery ward at CMCH. Sadly, one child lost their life on Saturday, two on Monday, and another on Wednesday. Amena Khatun (24) and Zubaida (22) are the two survivors currently undergoing treatment at the hospital, with Amena suffering from 8% burns and Zubaida from 25% burns.
