Discovery of Remains on Colorado Trailhead Identifies Missing Woman

In a heartbreaking turn of events, the remains found on a Colorado trailhead by a sheepherder have been positively identified as those of Samantha Bartolo, a missing woman from the area. The Delta County Sheriff’s Office made the announcement in a recent news release.

The Disappearance

Samantha Bartolo, 40, was reported missing by her family on November 12. Living in a camp trailer near the Gunnison Gorge Conservation area east of Delta, Bartolo had not been seen by her family for two days, according to a Facebook post dated November 14.

Search Efforts

Following the report of Bartolo’s disappearance, search and rescue teams from multiple agencies scoured the area but were unable to locate her. Months later, on February 18, a sheepherder discovered human remains in the Smith Mountain Trailhead area east of Delta.

Identification and Autopsy

An autopsy was conducted on the remains, leading to the positive identification of Samantha Bartolo. The Delta County Sheriff’s Office stated that the forensic pathology process helped confirm her identity.

Family’s Tribute

Expressing their grief over Bartolo’s tragic death, her family shared heartfelt words on a Facebook page dedicated to her disappearance. They described Samantha as a beacon of love and light, honouring the 40 years they had spent with her.

Ongoing Investigation
