Tragic Shooting in Akron Claims the Life of Barberton Man
The peaceful streets of Akron were shattered by tragedy on Friday evening, as 47-year-old Patrick Boergert of Barberton fell victim to a fatal shooting. The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed his identity, revealing the devastating loss to his family and community.
Details of the Incident
The incident took place in the 1300 block of South Arlington Street, where Boergert was shot before being moved to the 800 block of East Wilbeth Road. Akron police responded swiftly to the scene, finding him with a gunshot wound to his upper body. Despite their efforts to administer first aid, Boergert was rushed to Summa Health Akron City Hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries.
Arrest Made in Connection with the Shooting
In a promising development, Akron police managed to apprehend a 16-year-old male on Sunday at a residence in the 1000 block of South Arlington Street. The suspect has been charged with aggravated assault, with further charges expected as the investigation progresses.
Remembering Patrick Boergert
Boergert, originally from Cleveland, had called the Akron area his home for the past five years. Described as a dedicated volunteer at his local church and someone who found joy in singing, he leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness. His passing has left a void in the lives of his three daughters, three sons, seven grandchildren, two siblings, and his mother.
