Man Arrested for Allegedly Attacking Firefighter with Syringe

A man in Nashville, Tennessee has been arrested after allegedly attacking a firefighter with a syringe. The incident took place on Monday, Feb. 26 in the 2300 block of Murfreesboro Pike, where emergency services were responding to a call about a possible overdose.

Emergency Response to Overdose Call

Upon arriving at the scene, paramedics had already placed the man in an ambulance. The medics informed the police that they were taking the man to Southern Hills Hospital for treatment. Inside the ambulance, a medic and a firefighter were attending to the man.

Alleged Assault with a Syringe

As the medical personnel were trying to administer medication to the man, he reportedly grabbed the syringe and started swinging it. The firefighter was struck in the head with the needle, resulting in multiple cuts.

Suspect’s Explanation

The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Henry Hatcher III, told officers that he was allergic to Narcan, a medication commonly used to treat opioid overdoses. He claimed he grabbed the needle to prevent them from giving him the medication. Hatcher also admitted to hitting one of the first responders in the nose.

Charges and Detainment

Henry Hatcher III was taken into custody and charged with felony aggravated assault on a first responder with a deadly weapon. He is currently being held in Metro Jail on a $5,000 bond.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident and ensure the safety of emergency responders in the line of duty.
