A tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, in Sarvamangala Nagar, Second Main road, Chitlapakkam, under the jurisdiction of the Tambaram Corporation. A 34-year-old motorist, identified as C. Govindaraju, lost his life in a harrowing road accident that shook the local community.
Govindaraju, a resident of MGR Nagar, Chitlapakkam, had been living in the area with his family for the past decade. The father of two young boys, Karuppusamy, 14, and Sridharan, 8, set out on his bike that fateful evening to purchase diesel for his work as a mason. Little did he know that tragedy awaited him just around the corner.
As the sun dipped below the horizon at 7.30 pm, CCTV footage captured the moment when Govindaraju’s speeding bike collided with an unmarked speed breaker on the road. The impact of the collision catapulted him off his vehicle and into an electricity post at the side of the road, leading to fatal head injuries. His two sons, who were riding pillion, fortunately escaped with minor injuries, thanks to the swift action of concerned neighbours who rushed to their aid.
Upon receiving the distressing news, a Traffic Investigation team from Pallikaranai promptly arrived at the scene. The lifeless body of Govindaraju and his injured sons were swiftly transported to the Government Chromepet Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
The authorities wasted no time in initiating legal proceedings, registering a case under Sections 279 (Rash Driving), 337 (Causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), and 304A (Causing Death due to negligence) of the Indian Penal Code. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
