Man Arrested for Shooting Teen in Wingate, North Carolina

WINGATE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — In a recent incident that has shocked the community of Wingate, North Carolina, a man has been arrested for shooting a teenager in early February. The Union County Sheriff’s Office (UCSO) reported that 20-year-old Caleb Garcia from Pageland, S.C., is facing charges of Attempted First-Degree Murder after the shooting. Garcia was taken into custody on Monday, Feb. 26.

According to deputies, the incident took place on Saturday, Feb. 3, when an 18-year-old Wingate resident was shot multiple times after approaching a car occupied by Garcia and several others on Bobwhite Circle in Wingate.

The victim of the shooting received extensive medical care at a local hospital and is currently undergoing recovery from his injuries, as per the UCSO.

Garcia, who was identified as a suspect in the case, was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Carolina Regional Fugitive Task Force on Monday evening. He is now being held at the Union County Detention Center on a $500,000 secured bond.

Sheriff Eddie Cathey expressed that Garcia’s arrest is just the beginning of bringing all those involved to justice. He stated, “The suspects who attempted to kill the victim in this case believed they could commit this violent act within Union County without facing consequences. Garcia’s arrest sends a clear message that our dedicated personnel will not rest until all individuals involved are identified, apprehended, and charged.”
