IBERIA PARISH — In a heartbreaking turn of events, the Turner family of New Iberia is reeling from the loss of their beloved daughter and sister, Sheryl Turner. The family is left devastated after Sheryl’s body was found in the Ouachita River in Catahoula Parish. The tragic incident has left the family in shock and disbelief.

The Disappearance

Sheryl Turner went missing on December 31, 2023, after a heated argument with her mother. She packed up her belongings, left the house, and did not contact her family for several days. Concerned for her safety, the Turner family filed a missing persons report with the New Iberia Police Department on January 3.

The Discovery

On January 24, a fisherman discovered a body floating in the waters of the Ouachita River. The body was later identified as a human torso with the extremities and head removed. The Turner family was contacted by a detective from Catahoula Parish, who delivered the devastating news that the body found in the river matched Sheryl’s description.

The Confirmation

After submitting DNA samples for testing, the Turner family received confirmation on Friday, Feb. 23, that the body found in the Ouachita River was indeed Sheryl Turner. The family is now left to grieve the loss of their beloved daughter and sister.
