Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Details of the Murder in Queens

It has been over two decades since the tragic death of Run-DMC DJ Jam Master Jay, born Jason Mizell, who was shot to death in his recording studio in Queens, New York. Finally, justice has been served as two men have been convicted for the murder.

The Long-Awaited Verdict

After weeks of testimonies, jurors at the U.S. District Court’s Eastern Division of New York in Brooklyn delivered the long-expected decision. Karl Jordan, Jr., identified as Mizell’s godson, has been charged with firing the fatal shot that killed the DJ. Ronald Washington was also found guilty of carrying out the killing with Jordan as an act of vengeance after being excluded from a drug deal. Prosecutors argued that the men enlisted a third man, Jay Bryant, who will face trial separately in 2026.

The Tragic Incident

Mizell, who was only 37 at the time of his death, was fatally shot on October 30, 2002. Reports indicate that Mizell turned to the drug trade following the decline of his success with Run-DMC. He was shot at close range with a .40-caliber handgun by a masked gunman identified as Jordan. Another bullet struck Mizell’s friend and assistant, Uriel “Tony” Rincon, who was present at the time of the shooting.

Key Witnesses

Rincon and Lydia High, a woman who worked for Mizell’s JMJ Records, were the only eyewitnesses to the shooting. Both denied knowing the identity of the shooter, claiming they were intimidated by Jordan. This led to the case remaining unsolved for many years.

Legacy of Run-DMC

With Mizell on the beats, Run-DMC, alongside Joseph “Run” Simmons and Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, was one of the most influential rap groups in history. Their hits like “Walk This Way” and “It’s Tricky” left an indelible mark on the music industry.

Sentencing and Closure

Jordan and Washington face a minimum of 20 years in prison, with official sentencing to be determined at a later date. The verdict brings closure to a case that had remained unsolved for far too long.
