Sudbury, Massachusetts
Authorities have identified the victim of a devastating house fire that occurred in Sudbury last week. Hema O. Shahani, a 74-year-old woman, tragically lost her life in the blaze, which is believed to have been caused by a circuit overheating due to a space heater in use.

Tragic Loss

Shahani was found dead in one of the bedrooms of her home, unable to escape due to limited mobility. Family members and a Sudbury police officer sustained injuries while attempting to rescue her.

Community Condolences

Sudbury Fire Chief John Whalen expressed deep condolences to Shahani’s loved ones, highlighting the loss of a cherished family member and offering thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Fire Investigation

Firefighters and police responded to the blaze on Goodman’s Hill Road early in the morning, discovering heavy fire at the rear of the home. The fire is believed to have started inside a wall and spread due to an overheated circuit powering a space heater.

Furthermore, investigators found no working smoke alarms in the living areas of the house, emphasizing the importance of having proper safety measures in place.

Safety Reminder

State Fire Marshal Jon Davine urged residents to ensure they have working smoke alarms on every level of their homes, emphasizing the tragic consequences that can result from a lack of proper fire safety measures.
