Woman Arrested for Smuggling Illegal Migrants in Batesville, Texas

Early Tuesday morning, a woman named Esmeralda Abigail Trejo was arrested during a traffic stop in Batesville, Texas for allegedly smuggling three illegal migrants. The incident occurred on US 57, just west of Batesville in Zavala County.

Traffic Stop Leads to Shocking Discovery

The Zavala County Sheriff’s Office announced on Facebook that Trejo was stopped around 12:30 AM for a traffic violation. When questioned by the deputy, Trejo claimed she was returning home from Carrizo Springs, TX and was giving three men a ride to San Antonio. However, further investigation revealed that the three men were undocumented migrants who had entered the country illegally.

Following the discovery, Trejo was arrested and charged with Smuggling of Persons. She was then taken to Zavala County Jail for processing.
