Tragic Loss of Lethbridge Dentist in Avalanche near Castle Mountain Ski Resort
A devastating incident occurred on Saturday near Castle Mountain Ski Resort, located approximately 250 kilometres south of Calgary. The victim of the tragic avalanche has been identified as Magrath resident Dr. Scott Walburger, a beloved dentist and family man.
Dr. Walburger, 47, was enjoying a day of snowmobiling in the backcountry with another adult male and two children when disaster struck. The avalanche hit the group in an area between the ski hill and Carbondale, claiming the life of Dr. Walburger. Fortunately, the other adult male was able to escape with both children, according to RCMP reports.

As the owner of Choice Dental Group, which operates two dental clinics in Lethbridge and one in Medicine Hat, Dr. Walburger was known for his unwavering dedication to his patients and staff. The team at Choice Dental Group described him as a beacon of healing, education, and high-quality care.

Dr. Walburger’s journey in dentistry began as a denturist before he pursued further education to become a dentist. He obtained his bachelor of science degree from the University of Lethbridge and his doctor of dental surgery degree from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry.
