Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Three individuals have been taken into custody on Monday in relation to a tragic incident that took place on a Bronx subway, resulting in a man losing his life. Justin Herde, 24, Alfredo Trinidad, 42, and Betty Cotto, 38, were apprehended by authorities on Monday morning following their identification as suspects in the attack that occurred onboard a D train near the 182nd–183rd Streets station. The suspects are accused of physically assaulting and ultimately killing 45-year-old William Alvarez. The specifics of Alvarez’s cause of death, whether by gunshot or stabbing, have not been confirmed by the NYPD.

The altercation began at approximately 5 a.m. on Friday when Alvarez engaged in a dispute with one of the alleged attackers on a southbound D train. The situation escalated as two other suspects joined in, resulting in the fatal outcome for Alvarez. NYPD Chief of Transportation Michael Kemper noted that Alvarez sustained a wound that could have been caused by either a gunshot or a sharp object.

Surveillance footage of the incident was available to law enforcement, aiding in the identification and subsequent arrest of the suspects. This tragic event marks the second fatal attack to transpire on a Bronx subway within an 11-day span, prompting concerns about safety and security in the area.

Borough President Vanessa Gibson expressed the need for a broader conversation surrounding safety measures, particularly within the subway system. The incident remains under investigation, and updates will be provided as further information becomes available.
