Tragic Crash Leaves One Dead and Two Injured on Hawaii Island

An 18-year-old man, identified as Keawemauhili Iolanikealoha Navas-Loa of Honaunau, was arrested on Sunday following a devastating head-on collision on Hawaii Island. The incident occurred at around 2:15 p.m. near the intersection of Ke Ala O Keawe Road and Honaunau Road.

Suspect’s Reckless Actions Lead to Fatal Collision

According to investigators, Navas-Loa crossed the double solid yellow lines in his Chevrolet Tahoe SUV, resulting in a head-on collision with a Honda Accord sedan driven by Jerome “Tabu” Chadallen Kahoalii Heath of Kailua-Kona. Tragically, Heath was pronounced dead at the hospital following the crash.

Children in Critical Condition

Heath’s 10-year-old son and 7-year-old daughter, who were passengers in the vehicle, sustained injuries in the collision. They were also taken to the hospital for treatment but were fortunately released after receiving medical care.

Legal Ramifications for the Suspect

Navas-Loa was arrested on charges of second-degree negligent homicide in connection with the crash. However, he was later released pending further investigation by authorities.
