The California Highway Patrol is investigating a Salinas Highway 101 crash that injured two people and killed one person Saturday morning.

The CHP said a 1995 Toyota Camry was traveling southbound on Highway 101 with three people inside at about 4:54 a.m.

For unknown reasons, the Camry failed to negotiate a road curve, lost control and overturned, the CHP said. The car eventually collided with the Laurel Drive exit sign.

The driver and right rear passenger were not wearing seatbelts and were ejected from the vehicle, the CHP said.

The three occupants of the vehicle were taken to Natividad Medical Center. The driver, a 28-year-old male from Salinas, died at the hospital from his injuries and two passengers suffered serious injuries, the CHP said.

The CHP said alcohol and drugs are suspected factors in the crash.

The passengers were identified as a 29-year-old male and a 24-year-old male from Salinas.
