Blind Man and Woman Killed in Tragic Motorcycle Accident on NH-75 near Nelamangala
On the outskirts of Bengaluru, a blind man and a woman tragically lost their lives after being struck by a speeding motorcycle on NH-75 near Nelamangala in the early hours of Friday. The harrowing incident was reported to the Nelamangala traffic police by a vigilant patrol officer for the Nelamangala Devanahalli Highway Company.
The victims have been identified as Sridhar K, aged 53, and Archana, aged 34, based on the Aadhaar and voter ID cards discovered in a bag that was carried by one of the victims. The police complaint, filed by G C Rajanna, a patrolling officer on the highway, detailed that he received a distressing call around 6.20 am on Friday, alerting him to a tragic accident involving a couple and a motorcycle on the stretch between Nelamangala and Kunigal.
Upon reaching the accident site, the officer found the blind man and woman lying on the road, surrounded by their white canes, scattered bags, and footwear. The motorcyclist responsible for the collision was also found injured in a drain 30 meters away from the scene.
“The blind individuals were en route to visit a friend near the eighth mile when the accident occurred. They had just arrived from Bengaluru and were crossing the road when the tragic incident took place,” a Nelamangala police officer revealed.
Further investigation led to the discovery of a mobile phone in the bag, aiding the police in locating the person the blind couple had intended to visit. The motorcyclist, identified as Ajit Naik, a manager at Amazon, was riding a Honda CBR motorcycle at the time of the accident.
CCTV footage confirmed that only the motorcycle was involved in the collision, with no other vehicles implicated. As a result, the motorcyclist has been charged with causing accidental death, rash and negligent driving, and endangering human life under Sections 304A, 279, and 337 of the Indian Penal Code.
This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and vigilance while traveling, especially for vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and individuals with disabilities.
