The Robbery at Cyprus Credit Union

Just under two weeks ago, a shocking incident occurred at the Cyprus Credit Union in West Valley, Salt Lake City. A federal grand jury has now indicted 44-year-old Joey Shaun Symond in connection with the crime.

The Incident

On February 10, Symond entered the Cyprus Credit Union located at 3432 W. 3500 South. He approached a teller and handed over a note threatening violence if money was not handed over. The teller complied, and Symond made off with a sum of cash.

Police Response

Following the robbery, the Unified Police Department received a tip-off from a relative of Symond, who claimed that he had confessed to the crime. Officers quickly arrived at the scene and were able to positively identify Symond as the suspect. A significant amount of stolen money was recovered at the time of his arrest.

Suspect’s Background

It was revealed that Symond has a criminal record dating back to 1999, including a previous arrest for robbery in 2009. However, this charge was later dismissed without prejudice. The upcoming jury trial scheduled for April 26 will determine the outcome of his latest offence.
