Tragic Crash in Zion Leads to Charges of Reckless Homicide
In the early hours of April 4, 2022, a tragic incident unfolded in Zion, a city located in Lake County, Illinois. Authorities responded to a distress call reporting a single-vehicle crash near the intersection of 9th Street and Lorelei Drive in Zion.

The Victim: Jadyn R. Pagan
The victim of this devastating incident was identified as 18-year-old Jadyn R. Pagan, a resident of Zion. Tragically, Jadyn succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan.

The Driver: Marco J. Pena
The driver of the vehicle, identified as 21-year-old Marco J. Pena from Beach Park, now faces serious legal consequences for his alleged role in the incident. Pena has been charged with reckless homicide, a Class 3 felony, following an indictment by a Lake County grand jury.
The indictment states that Pena’s reckless actions, including speeding above the posted limit and failing to reduce his speed before the crash, directly contributed to Jadyn Pagan’s tragic death.

During his initial court hearing, Pena was arraigned on the charge of reckless homicide before Lake County Judge Patricia Fix. Despite the severity of the allegations against him, Pena was granted pre-trial release under strict conditions.
As part of his release terms, Pena is required to comply with the highest level of pre-trial services monitoring. He must also refrain from leaving the state without court permission, avoid possessing dangerous weapons, and abstain from alcohol and illegal substances.
