Accident – Death – Obituary News : In a recent incident that has shocked the community, a man in Colorado has been identified as a person of interest in a plot to carry out a mass shooting at Mariemont High School. The Colorado man has been prohibited from buying or possessing a firearm until February 2025, after the Colorado Springs Police Department filed an Extreme Risk Protection Order against him. This order, which is Colorado’s version of a red flag law, prohibits the man from possessing, controlling, buying, or receiving a gun in the state for 364 days.

The police have stated that there was enough probable cause to file the order, but they have not made any arrests or filed any charges against the man. The investigation is still ongoing, with Colorado Springs police working closely with the FBI to gather more information about the incident. Local law enforcement in Mariemont, including Mariemont Police Chief Rick Hines, is also conducting their own investigation into the matter.

The man allegedly helped a 14-year-old student devise a plan to attack Mariemont High School in early January, as revealed through text messages released by Hamilton County Prosecutor Melissa Powers. The plan involved using gas to incapacitate others, disabling school surveillance cameras, and accessing a gun that was in the home where the teen lived with his father. The plot targeted eight students and one teacher, according to Powers.

Fortunately, the plan was thwarted when another student heard about it and informed his father, who then contacted the police. The 14-year-old freshman suspect was arrested on February 7 and charged with conspiracy to commit aggravated murder. During a pre-hearing trial on Wednesday, Hamilton County Juvenile Court Judge Kari Bloom ruled that the teen will remain in detention, with prosecutors seeking to try him as an adult.

The Hamilton County Public Defender, representing the teen, stated that he has “mental health challenges,” including autism spectrum disorder, and was a victim of the man’s “predatory behavior.” The incident has raised concerns about the safety and security of schools, and authorities are working diligently to ensure the well-being of students and staff members..
