Authorities have identified the victim of a tragic incident at the University of Georgia campus as Laken Hope Riley, a student at Augusta University College of Nursing. The 22-year-old resided in Athens near the intramural fields where her body was found with visible injuries in the woods around Lake Herrick.

Autopsy Underway to Determine Cause of Death

Athens-Clarke County Corner Sonny Wilson has confirmed that an autopsy is currently being carried out at the State Crime Lab to ascertain the cause of Riley’s death. The young student attended the satellite campus of Augusta University in Athens as a senior, located in a shopping center off Barnett Shoals Road.

Discovery of Victim’s Body

Riley’s body was discovered by a University of Georgia police officer in a wooded area behind Lake Herrick at the intramural fields off College Station Road. She had been at the location for a run, and when she failed to return home, a friend contacted UGA police, leading to the tragic discovery.

No Suspects Identified

As of now, police have not released any information regarding the cause of Riley’s death, and no suspects have been identified in connection with the incident. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
